Navajo weaving is a gentle, meditative art rich with historical, cultural and spiritual significance.
Now is the perfect time to treat yourself to a Navajo weaving workshop. I always recommend that you take one with a Navajo weaver- it can be a life transforming experience.
See my Calendar of Events page for listings of upcoming workshops.
If you can’t find a workshop with a Navajo weaver in your area, check with your local art and crafts center or guild. Many are offering quality workshops with non-Navajo weavers that will get you started.

For anyone interested in weaving the Navajo Way, I especially recommend-

Navajo Weaving Way- the path from fleece to rug- by Noel Bennett and Tianna Bighorse. This book is used as a text book in many Navajo weaving workshops. It contains clear step-by-step instructions for all phases of Navajo weaving, dyeing and spinning and includes much insight into the spiritual aspect of weaving to the Navajo people. Paper. 21.95

Navajo Weaving, sharing the technique & tradition. A Navajo weaving video workshop with well-known Navajo weaver Angie Maloney and Susanne Clark. Learn about tools and equipment, techniques, tips, problem solving, finishing, plus stories, traditions and rugs that will inspire you! No previous weaving experience is required. DVD - 39.95

-Thus weave for us a garment of brightness,
that we may walk fittingly where birds sing,
that we may walk fittingly where grass is green.
O our Mother the Earth, O our Father the Sky.
